Our Perscription from 0-Adult
We love when families come to us with very young infants. This allows us to work with the parent and child, establishing a relationship with the family and providing us with a smooth transition from our parent/child program into our individual lesson program. Often, your child will have the same instructor for one on one lessons that he/she had during the infant classes.
0-2
If your child starts with our program during infancy, by the time (s)he is two, (s)he will be not only comfortable in the water and ready for lessons with his instructor, he will most likely already be swimming, albeit as a beginner.
At this point, the consistency of lessons is key to furthering her success. We highly recommend, slow, steady progress over the course of a summer for better retention, execution of skills and enjoyment. This stage will last for several summers and should absolutely be incorporated into their summer activities.
5-8
By age 5 or 6 - if your child has been in lessons consistently since infancy, and is performing most of her strokes with confidence, as well as treading, diving, deep water swimming and safety skills, it is not necessary to have twice weekly lessons for the entire summer, unless of course, it is being used as a sport for physical conditioning and overall health. At this time, we recommend a spring ‘refresher’ which allows your child to re-familiarize themselves with swimming after a winter hiatus. Once they are in the groove, once a week lessons are more than sufficient to keep good habits in their minds.
8-up
By age 8-10: If your child clearly loves swimming and shows some talent for it, now would be a good time to introduce them to swim team. Our coaches will help match your child to the right team for them at this time. Their first swim team experience is so important in providing them with the drive and determination to stick with it and go further. Our coaches will help guide you toward the right team, work with your child to strengthen any areas of weakness would hinder your child’s success on the team and assist in making a smooth transition into team sports.
